Health Risks : Furniture Made With Formaldehyde

The state of California has for many years led the way in protecting its residents from dangers associated with out gassing from harmful chemicals used in furniture production. California law requires manufacturers to provide warnings related to the use of materials known to cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin and has been found to exist in all sorts of furniture products, including baby cribs and changing tables. To protect your home or office indoor air quality, as well as your children, your employees, and yourself from toxic VOCs, it is of the utmost importance to avoid bringing furniture or other products emitting formaldehyde into your home or office. Unfortunately, formaldehyde can be found in many furniture products as a component of particle and MDF boards, glues, finishes, stains and paints, and can cause a range of negative health effects, like difficulty in breathing or as trigger of asthma attacks, coughing, nose, eye and throat irritation, fatigue and insomnia. It has been classified as probable human carcinogen by the EPA and the long term effects may not even be fully realized at this time. Recently California's Attorney General sue d furniture makers over dangerous formaldehyde levels, and I feel very confident that legislation in other states will follow suit as more attention is paid to this growing health concern. Lately the large insurgence of foreign furniture and household products has aggravated the issue as there is less stress on standards and production requirements in many of these factories. The best defense is to ask questions and be educated of what is out there and the potential dangers. See the details of the lawsuit here. The striking geometry of this side table is a variation on the theme of contrast and balance: a cantilevered sheet of glass slices through an angled, solid wood base, with the whole composition delicately poised and stabilized by a minimal stainless steel leg. At a first glance this table is hard to understand if you look at it from an angle like this, but this is the part that makes this table so cool and stylish. Finnaly the price of this table ?is ?quite expensive $2490.00, and it can be purchased from here.

A Stressless Recliner Experience by Ekornes

I have been closely involved in the retail furniture market from sales and buying, to management for the past 20 plus years. With that having been said, there is very little I have not seen on the merchandise side of the business. From the cheapest to the highest of quality products, it is true, you get what you pay for. As the one man complaint department I am overjoyed when a particular product has historically proven it's self as a trouble free experience for our customers. The Ekornes Stressless line from Norway is exactly that. Ekornes has produced the best leather recliners and living / media room furniture since 1972. The company has managed to fight off cutting corners to compete with the entire field of look a like cheaper copies, and there are many. In a vain attempt some companies have even tried to adopt the features that have made this chair legendary only to miss by a long shot. Meanwhile the Stressless line continues to evolve into a very ergonomic and stylish collection with comfort as the paramount goal. The Stressless line has features that are way beyond the competition and it will be evident as soon as you take a seat. First of all, we're all different sizes and Ekornes makes their models in 2 and even 3 sizes to accommodate various height and width. Some of the features include a separate and active foot rest, active lumbar support, self adjusting headrest, and the new sleep mode which allows an almost flat position. I am most impressed with the quality components that make up the epoxy coated steel frame and how it smoothly adjusts to any position with very little effort. Surrounding their frame is cold cured foam which is injected into molds and takes the shape of the chair. In the curing process the foam develops a hearty shell that is most resilient creating a substantial base. This is then covered with several layers of less dense foam and padding to allow for a most conforming feel. Topped off with a fully surrounding top grain leather and external steam bent laminated beech wood frame, the chairs look as good as it feels. As an owner of two I can testify on a personal level, it is truly a stressless experience.

This beauty is available in fabric and now leather with pleats to ensure a comfortable seat. The modular feature allows a multitude of configurations for flexibility and use in almost any room size.
